We've all been there. In fact, we're all there. When someone asks the simple question "how are you doing", our immediate answer is "busy".

And that's likely true. If you're holding down a full-time job and attempting to have a life, you're going to be busy. But let's be realistic. The reason that many of us are saying this is that we think that being busy is that we think that this makes us look good. We believe that no co-worker or client is going to be impressed if we answer "well, I'm actually taking some time out right now to focus on me."

And maybe we're right. For now. But, increasingly research is piling up that proves that being constantly busy has negative impacts not only on our wellbeing but on business health.

I'm a big fan of Alexis Ohanian, not least for being married to the GOAT, Selena Williams. And his recent speech at Web Summit summarized this culture perfectly as hustle porn.

Porn is entertainment, it's designed to not be reality. And hustle porn must be viewed as no exception - we have to reject this as reality and forge our own path.

I'm taking the first step by banning the answer "busy" from my conversation. And I'd ask you all to do the same.
