With 10 days to go until the world’s largest consumer electronics show, our team and many of our clients are gearing ourselves up for 6 days of the show that never sleeps. As we put final preparations together, rather than share yet another top tips for how to get the most out of the show (because honestly, it’s probably too late to start now if you’re trying to do it on your own so just get in touch), I wanted to share some suggested ice-breakers for those hundreds and thousands of conversations that you’ll inevitably be having…

1) Check out my selfie with Shaq! From sports stars like Michael Phelps and Shaquille O’Neal to entertainers like will.i.am, Octavia Spencer and Lady Gaga, CES is awash with stars so spotting and snapping one is the perfect ice-breaker.

2) Where did you come from? Isn’t the traffic just terrible, I can’t believe Vegas still hasn’t sorted it out. CES is not just in one place. Even the official CTA venues and events are spread about the whole of Las Vegas from the main halls at the LVCC, Sands and Aria to parties and media events in the Mandalay Bay, Monte Carlo and Golden Nugget. Oh, and transport and traffic is a nightmare so if you’re aiming to get between venues and events, leave at least an hour.

3) Isn’t it lucky we’re no longer sharing space with porn stars? CES used to overlap – and share space with – the AVN Adult Entertainment Expo. Given the state of the tech industry and sexism, it’s a very good thing that this no longer happens for everyone’s reputation…

4) Are you a John Grisham Fan? You know he’s here as part of the CES Book Club? Yes, there’s an official Book Club for CES and authors show up to do book signings and discussions on the main stage. This year John Grisham is among the noteworthy authors selected by CTA president Gary Shapiro to be part of his official Book Club and will be on stage on Wednesday lunchtime to talk about his latest book The Tumor.

5) WTF. Did you hear that someone has seriously announced slippers that also vacuum? There’s always something so incredibly bizarre launched that everyone just can’t stop talking about it. Last year, it was the beer making robot and smart hairbrush, before that it was the smart bed that remembered who you were and molded itself to your body. This year, there are already predictions that Samsung will unveil a foldable phone…

We’re resting our voices now in anticipation for the show and hope to chat with you all there. Happy Networking!
